Dear God…

This is a letter I wrote about a year ago. I wanted to share it with you and encourage you to also write your own letter/prayer to God using scripture. It helps remind me where I need my focus to be. My initial intent was to read this each morning before starting my day. I admit that I have not done that. I’m hoping that by posting it on here it will be a reminder to myself to read it frequently and be a blessing to you as well. :-) Enjoy.

dear God
Dear God,
I love you so much and want to show you that love by following Your commands each day.

(John 14:15 If you love me, you will obey what I command.)

I am seeking You, Lord. Let me find You and feel Your love around me today.

(Proverbs 8:17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.)

Lord, let me remember to seek You and Your ways first. Let me start my days by focusing on You, Your Kingdom, and Your will for my life.

(Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.)

Let my love for You and others be sincere. Show me what true sincerity is. Reveal evil to me so I can turn from it and cling to everything that is good in Your eyes.

(Romans 12:9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good)

Show me each day how I can love You with all my heart, soul and strength. Help me learn to love You above all else.

(Deuteronomy 6:5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.)

May everything I do; every word and every thought I have be pleasing to You. Guard my heart against evil so that my words, thoughts, and actions will please You. Help me to remember to think before I speak.

(Psalm 19:14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer)

No matter what the rest of the world is doing, let our household serve You.

(Joshua 24:15 But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD)

Jesus, please allow my heart to bear the fruit of the Spirit. Remind me even in frustration to have love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. As self-centered as this world is, let me remember that it’s not about me; it’s about You and showing others Your love through these fruits.

(Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.)

Let me make every effort to deepen my faith and continue growing spiritually in You always. Never let me be still, but always moving forward, growing closer to You.

(2 Peter 1:5-7 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.)

Lord, please don’t let me be of this world. Show me Your will from the world’s so I can do what is pleasing in Your sight rather than trying to please everyone else around me.

(Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.)

Give me inner beauty that is unfading. Remind me not to focus on outward appearances but to focus on the beauty of my heart.

(Proverbs 31:30-31Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.)

Watch over me, Lord, and guide me each day of my life. Give me Your instruction and counsel so I can continue to serve You.

(Psalm 32:8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.)

Allow me to be a trustworthy wife in everything. Let John have confidence in me and let me lack nothing of value in his sight. Let me be good to John all the days of my life and be a blessing to him. Bless our marriage through this.

(Proverbs 31:11-12 Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.)

Bless my business and guide me in all aspects. Let my business bless You and please You. Give me the strength to work hard and do well with the talents You have given me.

(Proverbs 31:15-18 She gets up while it is still dark; she provides food for her family and portions for her servant girls She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night.)

Let me be strong and dignified in Your sight. Let Your wisdom come from my lips and show me how to do so. Show me how to keep our household running smoothly and give me the strength to do everything that needs done and not become lazy.

(Proverbs 31:25-27 She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.)

Show John and I how to be the parents You want us to be for our children. Let us instruct and train them according to Your Word. Show us how to do so without picking fights or becoming overly frustrated.

(Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.)

Show us how to train each of our children in Your ways so they will have a strong foundation in You. Guide us so we can guide them. Keep our children on a path that leads to You and protect them from anything that prevents them from continuing on a path that pleases You.

(Proverbs 22:6 Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.)

Lord, may we find refuge in the shelter of Your wings during trying times. Let us find comfort in Your unfailing love.

(Psalm 36:7 How priceless is your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find [a] refuge in the shadow of your wings.)

Save us from our enemies. Deliver us from evil. Be our rock and refuge in trying times.

(Psalm 18:1-3 I love you, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn [a] of my salvation, my stronghold. I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.)

Lord, place Your angelic warriors around our family and protect us from our enemies.

(Psalm 34:7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.)

I trust in You to provide for my and our family’s every need.

(Philippians 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.)

You have overcome the world. Let me take peace in knowing that. Let me feel Your peace all around me in trying times and remind me that You are greater than this world.

(John 16:33 I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.)

As my family seeks Your wisdom and runs from evil, bring health to each of us and cover us in Your protection from disease and sickness.

(Proverbs 3:7-9Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops;)

Let everyone in my family enjoy the peace and security that is found under Your wings. Allow each of us to experience health and healing in Jesus’ name.

(Jeremiah 33:6Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security.)

Let me remember that just as You delivered the slaves from Egypt, You will deliver me from my enemies and will fight on my behalf. Thank you Jesus!

(Exodus 14:13-14Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”)

Let this be your servant’s prayer each day. I love you Lord and want to see my life and the lives of my family transformed before my very eyes as I pursue more deeply Your will for my life.
Love Your Daughter,

Just found this, and love it. I saved it to my computer so I could use it myself. A couple topics are from my younger days, but most are just right for my life now. (And my husband’s name is John!) I just have to thank God for leading me to find GROW on Pinterest and through that, find you and Kelsey. Love you.

    • Oh Helen, this was a blessing to me to read this today (Sorry I’m just now seeing this a week late…I need to be better about checking my comments lol). I’m so glad you found us too! How neat we’re both married to a John :-) I’m glad you enjoyed this post. It was an older one, but really meant a lot to me when I wrote it. :-) Love you too! <3
